What specific services do you offer?
- Global’s Gear Specialist Team offers a comprehensive approach to girth gear management. The process includes; third-party gear engineering, design, installation, NDT-inspections, risk assessments, and maintenance audits of large girth gear systems and mills.
- Global’s engineers can perform gear ratings for current and replacement gear sets, provide support for procurement, and provide complete gear set installation.
- We pride ourselves on being able to provide realistic and site specific (RCM) based maintenance plans and solutions to improve critical asset reliability and up-time.
What differentiates you from any other provider?
- Global’s third-party girth gear specialist team conducts gear inspections and risk assessments based on the inspection recommendations outlined in the annex of AGMA 6014. Our inspection process will provide the customer with a complete non-destructive test of the integrity of the mill gear teeth in accordance with ASTM E2905.
- In addition to NDT inspections, all of Global’s field engineers and lead technicians are experts in visually identifying failure modes and classifying them in accordance with AGMA 1010-F14. This approach provides a complete gear set examination beyond just identifying cracks.

What standards do you recommend in your maintenance assessments?
- We have developed the industry standard; ASTM E2905; Examination of Mill and Kiln Girth Gear Teeth—Electromagnetic Methods. AGMA 1010-F14, is an industry leading standard that we adhere to.
What risk assessment techniques do you employ in an inspection?
- We pride ourselves on being able to provide realistic and site specific (RCM) based maintenance plans and solutions to improve critical asset reliability and up-time.
- Global’s third-party girth gear specialist team conducts gear inspections, non-destructive examination, and risk assessments based on the inspection recommendations outlined in the annex of AGMA 6014.
- We do a conditional probability of failure analysis to aid in the decision of whether to replace, flip, or continue running a particular gear set.
What are all of the inspection and safety standards that you follow?
- Our inspection standards are mentioned above. For safety, in Canada, we follow each Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) jurisdiction policies. In the USA, we are under the jurisdiction of Mine Safety and Health Authority (MSHA).
What are the developing trends in inspection techniques that you are developing?
- The technique we use has been in use in Aerospace and the Nuclear sector for almost 20 years.
What was your experience before starting Global Inspections PAM?
- The President of Global has been in the mining sector since 1976.
What sustainability programs to you have in place that align with you client’s programs?
- In our chemical division, our spent product, in some jurisdictions, can be disposed of after as a waste oil (used as bunker fuel). We are currently developing a low VOC formulation to do our part in reducing environmental contamination.
How do you give back to your community?
- We donate to a variety of Charities throughout the year and give back at Christmas time to the less fortunate.
